Welcome to 2027 Creekview HS Winter Guard!

We are excited for the season ahead!  Winter Guard is a challenging, competitive and rewarding extracurricular activity that runs from the end of October through April. Winter Guard is part of the overall Creekview Marching Band Program (Program Director is Stephen McCarthy and Winter Guard Director is Cyndi Church) and is supported by the Creekview HS Band Booster Club.  Parents of Winter Guard members are automatically members of the Booster Club (see calendar for meetings).  We are so happy to have you join our award-winning program!

Here are a few notables and reminders that our new and returning families may find helpful for our 2027 Creekview High School Winter Guard Season!

Registration & Fees

The Band Program website, www.creekviewband.net is used for registration, payments and communications.  Registration will open on 10/29.  To register please go to the website and complete the registration packet and submit your down payment to secure your student’s spot.  If you are new to our website, you will need to create an account before you can register on-line. For returning students if you are do not see the registration packet link, please use the My Account/Payments drop down– Update Student Information to make sure their activity was changed to Winter Guard.  If you use Membership Toolkit for another activity you can use your existing log-in information on our site.

Participation Fees for 2027 are $800 per student ($200 / month payable over 4 months).  There are additional accessory costs that may be applicable as well.  All fee information, including scholarship opportunities can be found on the website.  Registration or website questions should be sent to creekviewbandtreasurer@gmail.com.

Practice Attendance Required

Coach Cyndi has published a tentative practice schedule.  This season we have both JV and a Varsity teams. Please note that we are still waiting on facility confirmation so some time/dates may change and this will be communicated.   Attendance at all practices is required for all members. The calendar contains a few full and half-day Saturday practices.  Any conflicts, illness, etc. that may impact practice attendance should be discussed with the Coaches and communicated as practical.

Practices may be scheduled during school holiday breaks.  Attendance for these practices are strongly encouraged, but if there are existing travel / holiday conflicts, please communicate with your Coach in advance.

Costumes & Accessories

Guard members should wear black athletic wear for all practices and rehearsals. This includes black CVHS Guard tanks and black athletic shorts or leggings, etc. It is recommended that all guard members have 2 to 3 CVHS Guard tanks.  New guard members will also need to purchase a backpack and jacket.  These are one-time purchases that can be used for upcoming Color Guard or Winter Guard seasons.  You will have the opportunity to place an order during on-line registration.  Guard members will also need to provide a pair of black slides to wear on competition days to protect their feet. These are available on Amazon or via shoe retailers for a reasonable price.

Costumes usage is included within the registration fee.  Additional items and accessories for the full show look may include special makeup, hair pieces, and/or earrings.  The requirements and purchase options for these items will be communicated.  These items are typically less than $50 in total.

Competition Logistics

The teams compete in both WGI and SAPA sponsored competitions.  Guard members are responsible for getting themselves to and from all competitions, busses are not provided.  Carpooling is encouraged!  For the upcoming season many competitions will be held in the North Metro Atlanta area (an hour +/- drive to get there) on a Saturday.  You should expect for the bulk of the day to be spent at or in preparation for the competition. Competitions dates are listed on the schedule.  Guard members may also meet to rehearse and prepare at Creekview HS or Creekland MS before traveling to the competition.

Please plan to arrive at all call times 15 minutes early to account for unexpected travel delays and traffic.  Guard members may find it helpful to bring healthy snacks and beverages in a small lunch box on competition days as the concessions and the opportunity to get concessions can be limited and they will want to keep their energy up.

County Exhibition and Friends & Family Show

There will be 2 exhibition opportunities to watch our Winter Guard Teams perform   One will be at the county wide exhibition at Etowah HS (date TBD) and the other will be at the Creekview Friends & Family Show (on calendar).

WGI – World Championships in Ohio

Creekview Varsity is tentatively registered to compete in World Championships over 4 days in April (4/7 – 4/10).  Please note that this is over Cherokee County’s Spring Break and an additional travel fee would be billed to each student to cover their hotel room and admission wrist bands.  Additionally, parents will be responsible for providing the student’s transportation and food costs.  Coach Cyndi will notify team in early January if the decision is made to compete!

Creekview Classic

The Creekview Band Program hosts a SAPA competition on 2/6 at Creekview.  Our teams will also compete.  This is one of our biggest fundraising opportunities of the year, and we will need many parent, student and sibling volunteers to make it a success.  Please make sure you sign up once volunteer opportunities are posted!

Support for the Guard

Parent and community volunteers help make our season run smoothly and we appreciate all your support.  We welcome parent help with props, costuming, and logistics for hauling the floors and gear to our competitions. If you would like to take an active role in our parent booster organization, please reach out to creekviewhighcolorguard@gmail.com.  Thank you in advance for your service and help during this season.  Please be on the lookout for communications from both Coach Cyndi and our Guard Parents on these needs as they arise.
