Stephen McCarthy, Director of Bands at Creekview High School, is a native of Waycross, Georgia. Mr. McCarthy oversees all aspects of the Creekview Band Program including The Marching Grizzlies, three concert bands, jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble, indoor percussion, and three winter guards. Mr. McCarthy graduated from Ware County High School in 1989 and attended Valdosta State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in 1993. While at Valdosta State, he was the drum major of the VSU Blazin’ Brigade Marching Band and performed in numerous performing ensembles. Mr. McCarthy received a Master's Degree in Music with an emphasis in instrumental conducting from Reinhardt University, having studied with Dr. David Gregory and Dr. Thomas Fraschillo.


Mr. McCarthy’s professional experience began in 1993 and includes five years as the associate director of bands at Morrow High School in Morrow, Georgia, nine years as director of bands at Stockbridge High School, in Stockbridge, Georgia, two years as director of bands at Strong Rock Christian School in Locust Grove, Georgia, three years as director of bands for the Social Circle City Schools in Social Circle, Georgia, and is currently in his ninth year as director of bands at Creekview High School in Canton, Georgia. Concert bands under Mr. McCarthy’s direction have performed at the Georgia Music Educators Association In-Service Conference on three occasions (1995, 2001, 2004), the Grand National Adjudicator’s Invitational on three occasions (2003, 2006, 2013), the University of Georgia January Band Festival on two occasions (2002, 2015), the University of South Carolina Band Clinic (2002), the National Band Association Southern Division Conference (2004), the Southeastern United States Concert Band Clinic (2005), and the Reinhardt University Honor Band Clinic (2014). Mr. McCarthy’s marching bands have been awarded numerous superior ratings, class placement awards, and ten grand champion marching awards. Parade performances include the National Orange Bowl Parade in Miami, FL, (2001) and the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in Washington, DC. (2019)

Mr. McCarthy has served the Georgia Music Educators Association in numerous capacities that include District 6 Instrumental Chair and GMEA Marching Band Chair. He has served as an adjudicator and guest conductor throughout the southeastern United States. Mr. McCarthy has received the National Band Association Citation of Excellence on five occasions and was listed in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers on four occasions. Professional affiliations include the Georgia Music Educators Association, the National Association for Music Education, the National Band Association, Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, and Phi Beta Mu International Bandmasters Fraternity. Mr. McCarthy is married to Jennifer Hammond McCarthy, elementary music specialist. They have two children, Joy, 15 years old, and Jack, 11 years old.

Mike Bearden, Associate Director of Bands at Creekview High School in Canton, Georgia, is a native of Newnan, Georgia. Mr. Bearden assists with overseeing all aspects of the Creekview Band Program including The Marching Grizzlies, three wind ensembles, jazz ensemble, percussion ensemble, indoor percussion, and three winter guards. He received a Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Valdosta State University and a Master of Music Degree in Instrumental Conducting from Reinhardt University.


Prior to Creekview, Mr. Bearden was the Fine Arts Department Chair and Director of Bands at North Paulding High School in Dallas, Georgia.  The North Paulding Band Program included a 200-member marching band, four wind ensembles, jazz ensemble, percussion ensembles, indoor percussion, and winterguard.  The North Paulding High School Bands have received superior ratings at all adjudicated events including the first Grand Champion award in the program’s history during the fall off 2013 and continued that success through his tenure.  The Wolfpack Pride has also appeared in the Children’s Healthcare Parade of Atlanta numerous times and the 2016 Outback Bowl game and parade. 


The North Paulding High School Wind Symphony received numerous invitational performances that included the 2014 Kennesaw State University’s Department of Music Concert Band Invitational, the 2017 University of Alabama Honor Band Festival, the 2018 University of Georgia JanFest Honor Band, the 2019 Reinhardt University Honor Band, and most notably, the 2019 Georgia Music Educators Association’s Annual In-service.  In 2013, North Paulding High School was represented in the Georgia Music Educators Association’s All State Band for the first time in the school’s history.  Many students each school year participated in regional honor bands, district honor bands, and the Paulding County Honor Band.


Prior to North Paulding High School, Mr. Bearden served as Director of Bands at Stockbridge High School in Stockbridge, GA, Port St. Lucie High School in Port St. Lucie, FL, Okeechobee High School in Okeechobee, FL, and Yearling Middle School in Okeechobee, FL.


As a composer, arranger, and drill designer Mr. Bearden has compositions published by Grand Mesa Publications. He currently has compositions on the Middle School Solo & Ensemble required performance list in Florida.


Mr. Bearden’s professional affiliations include memberships with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Pi Kappa Lamda, Alpha Chi National Honor Society, Georgia Music Educators Association, Florida Bandmasters Association, Florida Music Educators Association, United States School Band Association, the National Band Association, and the National Association for Music Educators.  Mr. Bearden is a staff member with the Georgia Ambassadors of Music European Music Tour.


Mr. Bearden was awarded a Citation of Excellence by The National Band Association for outstanding contribution to bands and band music in 2017, 2018, and 2019.


Mr. Bearden resides in Canton, Georgia with his lovely wife Robbye and handsome sons Michael, Christian, and Jackson.
